became the custodian of this today
need to get some origonal components for it
1989 so m730 seems to be the stuff
it rides well at speed but is very stiff
unlike the alpinestars cro-mega that followed it
evolution i guess

has that certain "something " tho

Nice one Mike

Pre E-stay cromoly A-star/MS's ride exceptionally well.

Huge bargain, and looks bloody spiffin' sir ;)

i thank you for your kind words sir

but i just took the photaes

do like it tho ,almost as much as edd's old frame/bike

No problem..

are you planning on releivng her of those reflectors and that ghastly chain guard.spke guard thingy on the back wheel?

Bargain is correct. You've done well getting your hands on one of those. They only made them for one year so you can be sure its a 1989.

Malcolm Smiths son Joel had an influence on these, he later went on to be Doug Bradburys right hand man at Answer Manitou and then with Doug and John Tomac built the Tomac brand in the late nineties before it was sold off to 'Amercian Bicycle Group'. Joel however bought the Tomac brand back in 2006, and to this day owns and runs the company.

mark, you are indeed a font of knowledge for all things astars related
anything else you know is much appreciated

steve yup i'm gonna do some mods to it in the near future

i just blew the tyres up and stuck the wheels on then rode it
at the moment it needs the indexing looked at and the brake pads re-aligned
ohh and the seat /post needs looked at ,not clamping up tight
the back block is an 11/32 and needs a clean at least
the mechs are a 738 (i think)on the rear and a mt lx front
it has stxrc combo shifters so will need to change them
the cantis are origonal as are the wheels stem/ bar
maverick sold it as a pub bike ,it is so much more than this
