After my first Jamis I got a weak spot for the brand.
Why? I don't know.
I think because my Diablo '98 is pretty special and there aren't many of them around, and the brand is quite unknown in Holland.
I have been searching for a retro Jamis for a few years, and especially the first Diablo.
I searched on different Ebay's, but never saw one.
But last week I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw one on the dutch Marketplace.
It was disguised as a city bike, with slick and fenders and all that crap.
Yesterday evening I bought it and today got time to strip it to a mountainbike worthy appearance.
It is in very good condition, few minor scratches, decals in good shape.
Put on an other sadle and some Psycho's to see what it could look like.
I don't know how I am going to build it, I bought a XT crank and V's.
Other plans are Syncross stem and post, XT hubs with Mavic sub wheels, XT thumbies and some amber wall tires.

And my not so retro Diablo '98

Lovely Jamis
Very under rated bikes imho.

Pretty sure the Diablo was around way before 93 though?? May be wrong but wasn't it the model above the Dakota, and I have two 88' ones of those ;)

Cheers, I bought this from the first owner and he told me he bought it in '92.
I believe the Diablo was from '88 to '92, but not sure.
I've seen your Dakota, very nice colour.
I always wanted a red Dakato , but am very glad I found a Diablo because of my '98 one.

I put on some modern tires and a '98 saddle on and rode it a few times the last weeks.
I was really suprised how this Mountain LX stuff still works very well.

We organised the first Retro Ride in Holland, very nice to see all those retro nerds in one place.
The cool bikes grow on trees here :)

It is a rather small frame with a long stem, so I really had to get used to the handling, it rides nice, a bit heavy though.
But there is someting new on its way, a bit lighter I hope.

Actualy the Diablo was the model below the Dakota
The standard Dakota was MT60 equiped while the Dakota Comp was M730,
Pretty sure that the Diablo/Dakota frames are identical though but the comp is a better quality Tange tubing.
I'm 99.9% sure that your Diablo is 89/90 and not as new as 93.
My mate has a 93 Diablo and its not got the fillet brazing (and is nowhere near as  )
Great looking bike you've got there!

I just took a better look at the serialnr., and there is a 90 in it, so I assume it is that old.
Thanks for the info, I changed the topic title.
