1990 Kona Fire Mountain

Cetim

Devout Dirtbag
In the middle of another build but this "appeared" and I couldn't pass on it.

It's not in brilliant condition and missing the matching forks which is a total PITA.

Not going to do much with it at the moment apart from look for 1" threaded P2 forks and stem and start on the paintwork. Plan to paint the forks and white splatter them - if I can find some.

It really needs a respray but I want to keep the original one so going to go down the slow localised repair route. I can white splatter over the top of any bigger repairs.

Never realised how heavy these are! Will make a good local runabout though.

Re:

Yeah. Just time consuming but will be worth it in the end.

The drive side chainstay is probably the worst part but then it will be mostly hidden.

possibly the easiest paint job ever to touch up? blue looks similar to "french blue"

Re:

The photos flatter it. The paint is pretty poor in a lot of places. I’ve been applying kurust tonight and at times I felt I should use a bigger brush and just paint it on.

Re:

Been making some progress, endless small paint repairs. - kurust - primer - sand - paint, repeat. The paint I have is an OKish match from a distance.

Managed to score a NOS U brake as well. Complete with all the bits I need. Feel a bit guilty opening the packet as its survived unused for 30 odd years.

Re:

Made some more progress.

Managed to get a 1" Flexstem. Not everyone's cup of tea but I don't mind them.

Painted the arm part to match the frame. First go at splatter painting. Primer - basecoat - smooth white hammerrite dribbled on with a wooden skewer. Then lots of lacquer to finish.

Pleased with how it came out but it makes the rest of the frame look shabby.
