1994 DeKerf Restomod

Finally learnt how to compress photos on my iPhone so I can now start writing some posts about my bikeson RB, rather than just buying new ones

First up, I’ve recently been riding my ‘94 Dekerf restomod. Not everyone’s thing I grant you but it came to me with a Chris DeKerf disc conversion and a BRG paint job by Argos so after it finished singlespeed duties with me, I figured I’d use it for something else

Main difference is the 650b wheels with “gravel bike” 42mm tyres. I’ve now done 2x 3hr rides over local greenways and single track and it’s ace. Tyre pressure currently 30psi, but I’m thinking of lowering it to 27.5(!). I’m also going to try a single front ring with a bigger cassette.

It makes easy rides hard again, just like back in the 90’s

Those wheels look like 26' and dont look out of proportion with the frame, whats the clearance like?

The photo makes the bars look a bit goofy. A legacy of Dekerf geo; you can either have it looking cool, or the bars in the right position, not both.

The OD of relatively skinny 650b tyres is about the same as relatively fat 2.1/2.2) 26” which is why it looks in proportion, just with a different ratio of tyre sidewall to rim size which makes it look kinda cool, I think.

Gonna bomb around on it ‘til the mud necessitates the SS, then I’m considering getting it repainted in proper Dekerf green

Lovely, looks great! Had to fit a riser on mine too, love the way it handles though.

Just set it up with a 1x 9 drivetrain ready for tomorrow. 38t front with a 11-34 on the back. Expecting I’ll want to go to a 40 or 42 but I’ve only got a 38 or 44 kicking around.
