1992 Stumpjumper Comp - Tired Garage Find to Restomod...

G60MAT

Retro Guru
After a good 6 months of looking, picked up this '91 Stumpjumper Comp last year from its second owner who had used it back in the day, broken and replaced a few parts and then forgotten about it in his garage!

This bike is pretty special to me as its the exact bike I had when a student which was stolen with another bike in a house break in. (Although I think that one is on retrobikes these days!)

Bike at first glance was in good shape but had suffered with a few "downgrades" over the years so usual strip down and see what it cleaned up like...

Pretty grubby but great to finally have the bike back that got me into MTB! :)

After a full strip down, decided to only use original best bits and then gather a decent XT or XTR groupset to go on. As this ones a "keeper" want the spec spot on once finished...

Full degrease and a few coats of polish and looking a lot better, decided to add my Blue Hope TI wheels as they match the decals well with a set of The Captain tyres and brand new Specialized tubes, plus the new Flite saddle...

Lots of parts to source still but got a few other builds to sort first, then back on this one! ;)
