Attitude.

Late 93 I needed a new bike. My Fisher had been stolen for a third time and a couple of weeks later there was still no sign of recovery.

Insurance was on board for the first thousand, so I hit the LBS to see what was on offer. I figured I could spend up to $3,000 so I could move up a bracket from my former trusty stead.

This time I didn't take too long to deliberate. I had fallen for a Cannondale with its super sexy frame and fat tubes. I could fully visualise the adventures and fun that lay ahead.

There was just one problem...

Next to it was this strange bike with believe it or not - even fatter tubes.
It was on sale from $3,200 to $2,800 so that was good. Dale was $3,200, but even if they were both $3,200 I had a problem.

I couldn't get this bike out of my head or stop smiling. It had a full M900 group set with spd 737's
You couldn't buy a M900 group for $2,800. Sure, it wasn't a Dale or a Klein but it was fat even if it wasn't a Fat or Ritchey or any of those other dream bikes that cost a lot more than $3k.

With a lifetime frame warranty this would be my ride. I'd enjoy it for a year or two, save up and get a dream frame to throw my shiny M900 on...

A = 1
T = 20
T = 20
I = 9
T = 20
U = 21
D = 4
E = 5

100 per cent coming home with me :)

Other’s will hopefully know the history better than me and shed more light on this…

My take on it is essentially Milazo is a well-known “entry level” (read commuter) MTB brand in NZ / Australia (?) that sold a lot of mass market bikes to those who simply needed a bike to get to school. Being unkind it is a step down from Avanti but sitting a level above department store bikes. Unlike Avanti who produce a very wide range of bikes all fit for purpose from entry level mountain biking to fruity race machines in addition to a full road range, track bikes even designing custom team bikes for our Olympians over the years, Milazo never had that street cred or authenticity…

So at some stage in the early nineties I can only assume they wanted to raise their stakes in this mountain biking fad thing.
I believe Extreme was a performance sub division of Milazo who at the time arguably had a similar model range target as Avanti.

The Attitude was their Pinnacle of the Extreme range.

A local Retobiker tipped me off to this one for sale back in 2011 or 2012 and it's been sitting in the (dormant) build queue ever since.

Not in great condition with a lot of M900 replaced, mismatched rims and gripshift, nostalgia kicked it as I've only seen one other for sale (April 18).

Having never ridden gripshift I was surprised by how well it worked.

Sadly I butchered an Alpine Stars D900 for its organs :(

I'm using this front wheel as an interim solution for my dream bike that turned up in April which has reignited some old projects. Thus have newer cover for said wheel, but essentially this is the pre build version for my 1993 Extreme Attitude recreation of yesteryear.

Thanks to Hayden who recently purchased the same bike I have been able to identify the saddle.

Velo VL-190 Titanium has been purchased.
