MOTOBÉCANE 1984

Mad372

Retro Newbie
Just picked up this Motobécane Mt Becane for £5 from Shpock. Think it’s from around 84. Looks like someone bought it and never rode it. As from what I can tell it’s all original with Wolber rims/tyres and looks like original dia compe brake pads! Can’t wait to clean her up and take her out now the suns shining.

Re:

Yes the tyres are pretty shot, which is a shame as it would of been great to keep them on the bike

Re:

Unfortunately nearly always the first thing to disintegrate. I think you could get away with black tyres on there though so not a disaster.

Re:

Yeah !
1984 is the last year for Motobécane. In 1984, Motobécane became MBK the following year.
With Peugeot, they are the first french brands which believe in mtb

Re:

Some news about that bike : in 1983, Mountain Biking landed in France from USA and Peugeot and Motobécane, 2 of the main bike builders wanted to follow the move.
In 1984 Motobécane made a little number of those MTB for the ”Syndicat du Cycle“. And the french BMX association (AFB, Association française de Bicrossing) providing them in different event for making people discovering mtb.

And I told you an error : Motobécane became MBK in 1988 :D

Re:

Here she is cleaned up, re-greased, shod with some new tyres and taken for a quick spin in the sunshine. Rides lovely, perfect for a cruise on the local cycle paths.
