Picked up over the weekend for very reasonable price and while half the components are useless, the frame doesn't have a single dent.

I'll post pictures later, but this frame is amazing - it says "Hand made in USA" and the welding points are by far the smoothest, almost non-existing, that I've ever seen.

This was going to be my gf's bike, but now seeing the quality of the frame, I have second thoughts.

In '96 those frames were glued (bonded) together so the welds are indeed nonexistent - you're looking at a cast lug. Go an inch or so up the tube and you may see a join.

Ha, "may" is the operative word.

Does that make them lower quality? Or less appealing?

They are good frames. I'm 6'1" and 220 lbs. I had one that held up for me just fine. I actually sold it about a year ago. It had yellow paint with red lettering. I'm sure I have some pictures somewhere...
