Hotta Mtb catalogue spec restoration

Dirt Disciple
Hi
I've never done a build thread before but as this is quite a special bike I thought I would do one
I bought this about a year ago but it came with quite a few non catalogue parts so I've been on the hunt and finally acquired the last piece this week, luckily I have the catalogue which makes it a bit easier, so anyway the build will be done tomorrow but this is what it looked like when I bought it, it had wrong wheels and tyres, wrong seat and seatpost and wrong pedals, M900 cranks are badly pitted, everything needs cleaning and polishing but here we go

Re:

If you want any info you could try contacting Simon Aske at Colin Lewis Cycles in Paignton. He designed the Hotta bikes in Totnes.

Re:

COOL!

I wanted a HOTTA when they were new but sadly did not have anything like enough money. I did get a catalogue though, which is scanned and in the RB Archive.

I thought there was only one MTB frame ever made, I saw it a while ago on facebook. Is your's that bike? Or is it a second example?

Either way its excellent.

Re:

There is only one and this is it, I'm bringing it to icon o classic this year but it has to be right, made a start on it tonight and just discovered the syncros seatpost i got for it is the wrong size and I've misplaced the top headset bearings, other than that it's going together lovely

Re:

Wonderful.

I remember seeing pictures of it hung in a loft and thinking, that REALLY needs to be out and about.

I look forward to seeing the build.

Re:

Ok so after tinkering all day on and off I decided to put a longer steerer in the forks as the original one was putting the bars way to low, also changed the cranks to a cleaner set of M900 but still not as clean as I would like them, all cables are now attached and brakes work quite well for cantis so just need to source the right Syncros seatpost, fit the chain and clean and fit the pedals and it's done

Re:

Very nice... I look forward to seeing the finished bike at Icono.

Re:

It's finished and completely rideable, there is only one slight difference to the catalogue picture apart from the steerer being longer but other than this it is a perfect catalogue restoration

Re:

Now that's a bit different! Never knew they made an mtb frame. Raced against people on time trial bikes in the '90s.

Hope you enjoy riding it!

Mike
