I started a thread to make sure this was a '85 Team a couple months ago ... It is. If you don't know the model Mombat does a nice job of explaining a bit of it's history ...

Actual 1985 Test can be read here:

I have assembled most of the parts for my build. It will be my first drop bar style mtb. The frame was modified by local frame wiz Tony Beeks in the early 90s to accept rear cantilever brakes and was never really completed.

Pretty rare bird, especially by specialized standards.

Re:

Well this has been a slow progression!

The frame still needs some dimples fixed in it, but it has it made it into the queue.

Finding the rest of the parts was easy till I stalled on the last bit. A nice set of c1985 Specialized Crossroad 1.5s arrived yesterday. Tough find.

I did a quick mock up to see how it all fits. Not a lot of these bikes to use for reference. Only the BB seems a bit off.

It will be a homage to the 1985 Stumpjumper team bikes when complete.

Re:

You must be a mind reader. I literally just picked the frame up this afternoon from my new welder. It was stalled horrifically at the other one, but Danielle from Schon Studios saved the build. She does nice work.

Back on track and off for some new colour Tuesday :D

Re:

Pretty in pink ...

This is going to be a bit of a throwback to the original Stumpjumper Team bikes

From talking with one of the old racers and builders of the bike I learned that some used a chopped down Lemond-style bar to get a more upright feel and straight drop to the bar cons for quick shifting. Total retro CX style.

Here's my attempt at that ...
