1986 Cannondale SM600

Crazy thing. Was thinking about how bad I wanted a 86 SM700 and bam one pops local to me on craigs in my size! It is rider but well maintained. All the original Suntour stuff is there. The only weird thing is in the catalog it is a 24 inch rear wheel. This one is 26 and appears to be original.

Now I just need to set it up a bit to my liking. Replace the saddle ASAP and lower the stem. Replace the pedals as well. Excited to hit dirt.

Re: 1986 Cannondale SM700

I just re-read the catalog. SM700 had the rear 24, the SM600 had the dual 26!

Re:

Really loving the bike. Moved some stuff around. Will need to get a old Suntour post and a different saddle, probably a leather Chromag Trailmaster even though that would not be retro I think it would look great and ride great. Threw on some bmx pedals for the moment, might get some old bear traps. Bike rides rad. My first time with cam rollers, very underpowered though might be due to old pads? Learning experience with those.

Re:

The bike is working out quite nice. Found a Suntoru XC post and a more retro looking brown chromag. Can't stand true retro saddles. Same with pedals. Bike rides great. Took it to Chino Hills today. Only thing left to do is throw on some new brake pads.

So cool, like a time port back 30 years to better times.

Brakes should be fine with new pads, no lack of power with r cams

Its a trip riding something over 30 years old. Would like to build something even older next.

Looking forward to new brake pads, these old ones are hard as stones. Also need to remove the spoke protector on the rear wheel.
