So picked this up a short while ago. Went in a bit blind, in that I had never known of one before. Heard of sintesi, known a few bazookas and have a knackered snake in the shed, but this model seemed a bit, well, missed out.

Behold, the 1996 sintesi hantrax.

Plan was hatched to fixerup and take to mayhem in June. Be a bit unusual / different and it's a good vintage for retro gathering. It also appeared in tidy condition so ticked plenty of boxes.

First inspection led to the following to do list:
Forks scruffy, replace.
Brakes wibbly, investigate an potentially replace.
Saddle scruffy, replace
Bars scruffy, replace.
Wheels, investigate further
Gears seem ok
Rear shock, investigate

And plenty of time.....

Re: Mayhem project

Intreresting purchase and I like the design, looking forward to seeing this tidy up and come together :)

Re: Mayhem project

But on closer inspection.....

Yes, that's a crack at a design / manufacture weak spot on an irreplaceable part

Quick call to Dan in order....

Re: Mayhem project

Busted the clamp along the line of the casting in looks like.

But never fear.... Dan to the rescue....

Chopped the broken ring out and welded in a new solid ring, no clamp, so it's a friction fit. That screw is to hold it still, there is a groove in the pin the bolt locks in to and stop the pin rotating, so it turns in the other part of the pivot (the frame). So Dan popped a thread in the 'other' side as it already had the casting for it (top in the third photo)

Not a bad job I'd say.

Now to get the parts stripped and cleaned up to see what's what.

Re: Mayhem project

Amazing refurb/rescue of that part, looking forward to seeing this doing a lap of Mayhem at 2 in the morning.

Re:

You have two Konas and a Zaskar, yet you're taking this to a race? :?

Is it me?

Mike

Re: Mayhem project

Ah, well that's an interesting point Mr Muz. Check out the build threads,
the zaskar is a) a 14.5" play bike not a racer, and b) not built yet.
The explosif is a rattly commuter with skinny tyres,
The hei hei is also yet to be completed, not even started the build thread for that one.
Currently working I have the orange, marin, santa Cruz and most of a Raleigh activator.

I Thought it would be more in the spirit of things to bring something a bit different.

Yes, I could put my efforts into building the hei hei in time (probably will) but I don't think I will bring it unless other options drop away.. Current plan is sintesi if I get it going, probably the marin as a backup.
