Looking forward to the restoration.

I am thoroughly touched and impressed by Phil - I hope in the same situation I would do the same, but basically I am optmistic I would do it :)
What are your plans with it now?
Obviously it will not stay labelled a Kona?
Full teardown and repaint in the original livery?
Cheers from Vienna (brushing the tears from the corner of my eyes and pouring myself a generous ammount of Lagavulin Distillers Edition)

Oh god, we're all feeling warm and bubbly inside!

(Though in my case that could have more to do with a hot curry and some cider.....)

Re: Dream Bike Stolen - Found 26 Years Later? Fat Chance (TC)!!!

I'm getting ahead of myself a little here, but I plan on doing a full restoration/replication of the bike as it was set up the day it was stolen from me. Here is my original spec:

Frame: 1989 Fat Chance Team Comp 18"

Fork: Fat Chance Team Comp

Headset: Shimano 600
Stem: Syncros 1st generation 1"
Handlebar: True Temper
Grips: ODI Attack

Brake Pads: Aztek Kool Stops grey
Brake Cables: Shimano SLR M730
Cantilever cable hangers: Dia-Compe
Brake Levers: Deore XT M730 4-finger

Shifters: Deore XT M732 7-speed 'thumbies'
Front Derailleur: Deore XT M732
Rear Derailleur: Deore XT M732 short cage
Derailleur Cables: Shimano SIS
Cassette: Deore XT M732 7-speed
Chain: Shimano HG M732
Cranks: Specialized 'flag' 175mm
Chainrings: Deore XT M732
Chainring bolts: Deore XT M732
Bottom Bracket: Fat Chance press fit
Pedals: Suntour XC - Comp
Toe Clips: Specialized
Toe Straps: Christophe leather
Toe Flips: WTB

Hub Skewers: Bullseye bolts

Hubs: Bullseye blue body, silver flange 36 hole
Tyres: Specialized Ground Control 'S'

Saddle: Turbo
Seatpost: Syncros 1st generation 26.4mm black
Seatpost Binder: American Classic

The only pieces that are either missing from the bike or that I don't have in my parts bins are: Suntour XC Comp pedals, WTB toe flips, yellow Specialized water bottle cage, yellow SIS cable housing, and the oh-so elusive Ground Control 'S' tires. Gives me something to work on while I am waiting for the frame/wheels to arrive...

Due to my being on a wheat free diet.....no grain in cider!!

For research purposes, I should add they were consumed SEPARATELY, not in the same sitting

Dont ruin my fantasy !....the Russians have become addicted to British cider. There must be a reason and curry is one of our favourite foods. Seems like a match made in heaven.
