Triple Oval Biopace cranckset and rear brake 'hidden'....I love it!! it gives a very cleaned line to the bike

very nice piece Bowser, awesome conditions. I like very much that stem-front brake system very powerfull and elegant.
Do you know in which years Mtb builders adopted the rear "hidden" brake and why does it disappeared later? Which was the reason? too much mud? not so powerfull braking? or because it was more difficult to demount rear wheel?
I'm approching old mtb now, they are gorgeous, especially 80's models with rigid fork and with NO sloping

Regards the rear u brake you are probably correct about the mud
Clogging
I also find removing the wheel a bind
I just deflate the tyre ! Easier than fiddling with the brake adjustment

nice bike, and the frame looks in good shape.
I like the U-brake. In my opinion these brakes working properly
