How it all started.

Re:

This has to be one of my all time favourite M.F's and its a very short list

The early ones look like gates and the later ones were just plain shite
But somewhere inbetween is a sweet spot and this is it

Not checked BOTM but of you enter it would be a serious contender for my vote.

Cheers Retro Spud i'm really pleased how this turned out and was a lot of fun to build just picking parts what you would've upgraded the bike with back then,a trip down memory lane i suppose with it being my first ever mtb.

This is another bike i'm going to add to the how it all started theme of things my 1993 Kona Lavadome,my first ever Kona. I've had this bike since new and it's got plenty story's and had more surgery than Stallone's mother over the years,it refuses to retire
The plan for this bike is to try and replicate the parts when it was insured for £1250 way back in its early life. From what i can remember it had lots of XT like those mechs maybe M737 though and the XT chainset what's on now. Definitely had XT V-brakes they were on the bike the first day they came out and promptly dislocated my shoulder testing them out
It had top of the range gripshifts SRT something, club roost stem and bars still got them somewhere. The Muddy Fox has the Flite saddle at the moment that might change :D
For the wheels i cannot seem to remember what they were though, that's a bit hazy.
But that can wait for the time being because the Marin is next to be completed.

Re:

It's back out of hibernation and time to finish off the build of my 1988 Marin PineMountain and get it looking like Joe's.

Re:

Quick update on the Pine Mountain.
Managed to find some nice Shimano Deore beartrap pedals and some new Mt Christophe straps, just waiting on some Zefal clips to arrive and that's that part sorted.
Got some nos Shimano Deore brake cables the ones before the SLR versions what came out in 89 and some Shimano SIS gear cables which are fitted. The U-brake got some nos Deore XT pads and the front cantis got nos Deore XT pads aswell, there all set up now,got to set the gears up now.
The wheels have been polished and the rear hub was stripped down and new bearings fitted going to do the same to the front. The UG freehub was a bit wobbly so i swapped that over for a UG/HG 1989 Deore ll freehub,so now you can run 6 speed or 7.
Wheels will be dropped off to Steels to be trued up then maybe a bit more polishing and sort the RM20 sticker out on the rear, the Araya stickers are being swapped for replacements. They're a bit smaller than the originals but smarten things up though plus the originals are a nightmare do find.

After that while the wheels are away i've just got to polish all the frame and forks again and go over the parts again so everything is gleaming and it'll be sorted :D

The Pine Mountain is pretty much complete now,got all the polishing done but ran out of time and light to get some decent pictures. Hopefully tomorrow the sun will be out to get some better pics to show off the lilac flip in the paint.
Sadly though the Marin has to find a new home because of a new bike arriving in a day or two and there just aint enough room in the inn these days to keep every bike :(
