Hi All

Many of you already returned their OWMTBC entry form. Other among you are still doubting whether to to attend the OWMTBC or doing a citytrip, or a stay at the beach, or smell some culture. I have good news: You can do all :)

Happy to hand you over something to convince your not so bike-addicted-as-you-are relatives to come to the OWMTB ;)

The 1st Old World MounTainBike Championship event is held at the coast in Noord-Holland, the Netherlands.

Netherlands

About 16.5 million people life together in a generally liberal, calvinistic way. They have to be good at sharing, as it is one of the most crowded countries in the world. About 50% of Dutch soil is situated under sealevel. To give some room to the people many land has been conquered on water. Pumps are still allday draining.

The countries government settles in The Hague, what is also the basis of the International Court of Justice.

In white you see the Netherlands. In the east you have Germany and in the south there is Belgium. West of Netherlands there is all North Sea  The red part of the Netherlands is the province of Noord-Holland >>>

The largest city in Noord-Holland is Amsterdam. It is also capital of the Netherlands. Haarlem, another large city west of Amsterdam is capital of Noord-Holland. Alkmaar is the capital of football, as that is where the National Champions reside (AZ) >>>

From Amsterdam Schoorl/Bergen (where the OWMTBC event is) can be reached through the A9 highway or by rail. The airport Schiphol is situated between Haarlem en Amsterdam.

Is it safe to visit the OWMTBC, will I not get wet feet?

Yes, it safe >>>

The event is held on top the duny part somewhere in the sea when a flood occurs. The water will find its way around the dunes, everybody behind it will drink instantly, but you are safe. Good news.

The chance a flood will occur are pretty slim btw. For centuries the Dutch are fighting with the water and they seem to hold up quite well in their in recent years for a substantial part by natural gas revenues funded struggle.

Next episode: Amsterdam

Holland is a great place to visit - we have long standing Dutch friends who will be coming to OWMRBC as spectators.

The Dutch are great linguists- very cosmopolitan- we've been regular visitors for more years than I want to confess to!
