The Retrobike Rides Monthly Newsletter - September 2011

So August draws to a close after a superb month of riding. The weather perhaps hasn’t been ideal for most of use but the local and national RetroBike rides scene has been in full flow. The national series crossed the border into Scotland for a memorable ride around Drumlanrig. The hospitality was amasing and with the Tunnocks weighing heavy we took on the slippery roots and rocks with smiles from ear to ear. A full aftermath more pictures than you shake a stick at, can be found here.

September is as always a Peaks month. On Saturday September 10th we will once more be tackling the stunning Peak District, starting out from Hope. Full details can found here. As always RetroRides are free to attend, leisurely paced and great banter is guaranteed.

Much interest has been expressed in the final round the ride series. Well I’m delighted to announce the final round will be held in the South East area. Full details will be announced after the Peaks ride, but I can confirm it will be around Leith Hill in the North Downs on the 23rd of October. Watch this space for further details.

Retrobike Rides have now been going strong for many years. They have evolved from a couple of dodgy looking characters meeting in the woods to ride their retro pride and joys to groups of up to 40 enthusiasts meeting up to enjoy their bikes, company and trails.
In doing so a friendly atmosphere has been created and good riding manners developed, giving Retrobike Rides unique qualities and banter. As always with Retrobike Rides, everyone is welcome and made to feel welcome.
All abilities are catered for with the rule being we only get round as fast as the slowest person, with short cuts and chicken runs being planned into the routes.

If this appeals to you, please come and join in at one of our National or Local events.

August:
We had a great run round Arran on some retro bikes at the tail end of July, a couple of the big bounce brigade riding the downhill trails at Fort William as well as muddy recce of the drumlanrigg before the main event on the 14th.
If you were at the Macretro ride in the Drum you will know what a great day it was- Top folk on some stunning bikes, with a real "old school trail", bags of roots, twists and turns and amazingly no mechanicals- really top day out- aftermath here- http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... 58#1212258

September:
Sees a small clan contingent heading to the peaks ride, Kaiser waving the flag at the World SS champs in Ireland and a 2 day Mr Panda special round Ben Nevis seems to be on the cards.

August:
There was a good turnout again from NWA riders at MacRetro's Drumlanrig ride. It was well worth the long journey north for a superb day's riding.
At the end of the month a planned trip to Ribblehead and Dentdale was replaced by an ad-hoc ride due to a low turn-out. The bank holiday Saturday saw Drystonepaul and Harrycrumb tackle a 40 miler from Preston to Rivington and back again. Aftermath here: --> http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=161951

September:
The main event on the NWA calendar arrives in September. The route is a tried and tested classic in the Peak District with a guest appearances from it's founding fathers. For many 'Mr K's Day in the Peaks' ride has become an annual favourite which should not be missed whether a seasoned hack or a determined newbie.
We'll look forward to welcoming you along for the main ride on Saturday 10th, the RetroBike pub quiz in the evening and the additional ride on Sunday for anyone who wants to make a weekend of it.

Saw a lot of us regulars on holiday, but we kept up the Tuesday night rides visiting various locations in the East Midlands. We have had a few new members join us on rides, which is always welcome to see.

No official regional ride, however many of us will be attending the Day in the Peaks on Sept 10th. There will also be the usual Tuesday night rides and weekend morning rides. You'll need to keep an eye out here for the announcements. We are trying to put these in green text so they stand out a little.

August:
August was pleasantly sunny in the West Midlands and alongside various rides in the Cotswolds (look in the Rides section for details) we also met up in the Forest of Dean for a mellow spin round and, importantly, a post ride pint (local riding for local people with local beer - what's not to like?).

September:
Fancy joining us on future rides? Here's what we've already got planned

JB666 hits Drumlanrig, Scotland!! Great effort.

August:
There wasn't a specific area ride in august, i didn't want to organise something proper as maybe an encouragement for the National ride up in Scotland at Drumlanrig. i decided to make it part of my summer roadtrip, 6 days of some of the best riding in the country, Scotland was awesome and i shall be visiting again . . . sooner than i thought! i will however try and get something organised as soon as i can in the area as soon as a sunday becomes available when i am not working!

also we had a lone raider to the Purbecks in the shape of PiperDave!

September:
the next ride is this Sunday at Ashton Court, i am really gutted i can't make this meet as i have been trying to get there for a while to have a look at the area as i have heard good things about it, unfortunately i have been asked to change my shift pattern for the next 2 months while i retrain in a new area at work. looks like it will be a good turn out though!

http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=158326

also don't forget Mr K's peaks ride! luckily i had this booked off so work has honoured these dates! this will be another 5/6 day road trip so if anyone wishes to join me and my buddy adam at any other venues before and after they are most welcome!

August:
A good month for us in terms of rides with the Brighton Big Dog and a Beach Cruise.

The Big Dog was a cracking event (Aftermath here) with not as good a turn out as last year, but much much nicer weather. The course gets better every time.

The beach cruise saw lots of new faces, and a very relaxed all day cake session (Aftermath here) A welcome break from the evil weather of the previous week.

A welcome to BobCatMax (Max) appointed as SE Deputy AEC this month too.

September:
No official rides planned for this month, but no doubt there are regulars out in the the wilds of the South East, come stick your beak in the SE forum to find out who's riding where..

Unknown rider on a Coyote at FoD?

* These low scores generally indicate that Sinnett177 couldn’t recognise you and so could only score on basic things like attendance. If you drop him a PM with a description of who you are and what you were riding you will have your points amended. If you've been missed off completely, again PM as above.

Enjoy your riding!

Am I going mad or was there a ride on the south downs where it now says north downs?

Your correct my friend, a communication misunderstanding on my part. Sorry for any confusion caused.
