It was savage alright, although there was a nice tailwind up the first two climbs, which in my case meant I didn't topple backwards too many times.

Huge crowds out cheering though - they sure help you along a bit.

This event makes you realise what a hammering a 'cross bike can take - it puts most MTB courses to shame, especially the descent of Whernside.
