The Retrobike National Event Series
With support from Image

Ladies and gentleman, 2011 promises to be an amazing year for Retrobike riding. Not only are your regional area groups in great shape with rides regularly being organised, but we’ve also put together a cracking National Series to entice you.

The National Series is the cream of the Retrobike rides squeezed into a six round series. We’ve done our very best to spread them around the United Kingdom, offer some of the very best trails and also make the series completely free to enter. So get your new diaries out, here is the Retrobike National Event Series with support from BikeFood Calendar for 2010/11:

Rd 2 - Thetford - Jan 23rd (Sunday)
Rd 1 - Cannock Turkey Twizzler - Feb 12th (Saturday). Postponed from 27th Dec.
Rd 3 - Forest of Dean - 14th May (Saturday)
Rd 4 - Drumlanrig - August 14th (Sunday)
Rd 5 - Mr. K's Day in the Peaks - Sept 10th (Saturday)
Rd 6 - Final Round (TBC) - Oct/Nov*[/b]

With special events at:

- The Hell of North Cotswolds (Sunday April 10th 2011)
- Mountain Mayhem (Weekend of June 17th-19th 2011)

*The final round has been opened up for all regions to submit a bid for it, we’ll then post up their plans and all Retrobike members will then have the opportunity to vote on the event you wish to finish the series with.

With Retrobike rides proving ever more popular we are delighted to announce that www.mybikefood.com have decided to support our series, they will be supplying us with complimentary drink supplements, water bottles and energy bars at all our national events.

The series is non-competitive in terms of riding, but to add to the interest we are putting together a National League Table with big points awarded for:-

-Riding Retro
-Wearing Retro (RB kit inclusive)
-Bike of The Ride
-Skinwall Tyres
-Sense of Humour
-Regional Bonus for distance travelled
-Photography
-Bodging skills

But what we give with one hand we’ll take with another and deduct points for:-

-Pikeing (a technical term for not turning up when you said you would)
-Mechanicals
-Punctures
-Riding a Modern Bike
-Not wearing a helmet

The league table will be updated and posted up as part of our monthly newsletter. Once you’ve attended a ride you automatically get entered into the league. At the end of the series the points winner will be awarded a special prize, there will be other spot prizes too. You’ll also receive a unique event sticker at each ride, can anyone collect all 7?

Please keep checking our calendar and monthly newsletter for details.

The regional bonus for distance travelled. Is this an individual award or a regional one? How does it work?

I asked for an explination on that one. Regional is difficult as our region alone is 200 miles from top to bottom.

Example- The Thetford ride is in our neighbouring area but its still a 500 mile round trip for me. So its easy for riders around the Humber to get there but a long way for the Northumbrians- how can points be awarded on that basis?

Gents all points awarded will be done on a fun basis, please don't take it too seriously. The regional bonus for distance will be awarded to those who've made a special effort to attend and to encourage a bit of regional teamwork riders from that persons region will receive a similar bonus.

Please remember this supposed to be a bit of fun and nothing more.

i've just checked my 2011 rota, it's not looking as favorable as last year but it looks good for HONC, Mayhem, and Drumlanrig, and i will make the OWMTBC happen for me. the rest i am working and i'll need the holiday time for OWMTBC, shift work is good but i only get 6 floating days to use, i can swap shifts but not that often without causing problems.

but Drumlanrig will be my main event i think, i'll make a welsh/scottish road trip of it over several days as i have 18 days off and that's slap bang in the middle of it :D

Just had a scan of the places figuring out where they are.
:( All quite far away. Peaks is about the only doable one and then that's on a Saturday.

Be nice to live down Hereford/Worcester way with the majority of them on your doorstep. Shame you couldn't have spread them around the country more. There's plenty of land to the East of the country ;)
Dr S say's there are hills up near him too.

Surly with 7 area's then there should have been one in each area ?
A bit disappointing really.*

Hope you all have fun and make some good reports :D
EDIT
* probably reads worse than I ment. disappointing as I can't come and I wanna play
