Ok, so technically it's still going on but what better way than to get things going with some interim comments?

- weather warm and dry (a tidy contrast to two hours of rain on Friday evening)
- course firm, fair and fast
- riders returning with wide grins and bikes covered in a layer of happy dust
- The Guvnor cooking up a BBQ storm two nights in a row, proving that an alpha male can serve meat that is both charred and raw and get away with it
- the heckling tent in fine form (and destined to only get more pithy as tiredness and warm lager kicks in
DJ Haddock serving up choice tunes on the wheels of steel

Dry trails, good company, old bikes and beer - seriously, is there any better way to spend a weekend?

Just in. Two cars to unpack so this'll be quick.

Thanks to all who came along to race, ride and support. What a great year! More to follow, pics and some reports, I'm sure...

A bit more to add!

A thoroughly enjoyable weekend.
Plus points -
Excellent company all weekend
Great support from fellow RBers from the trackside and out on the route
Spendid views from the high points
Riding one of two places I didn't think I'd manage!

Minus points
Just one ot two pushy competitors, in particular the one who pushed me down a bank of stinging nettles and thorns in his haste to get past!

And in response to many requests here's the recipe for the Spicy Red Onion Marmalade! Colonel Sanders might make an excellent business opportunity out of this - but I'll make it a gift to mankind - or at least the Retrobike community!

Spicy Red Onion Marmalade
25g butter
tablespoon olive oil
3 red onions finely sliced
120g red currant jelly
2 tablespoon red wine
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon soft brown sugar
2 or 3 dried chillies
salt and pepper to taste

Melt butter and olive oil together. Fry onions gently until soft and crumble dried chillies into mixture.
Add remaning ingredients and simmer gently stirring occasionally until most of the liquid evaporates and a jam like consistency is reached. Add salt and freshly ground pepper to taste.

If it's not hot enough I sometimes add a little sweet chilli sauce to finish or a little more vinegar or sugar to balance the flavour!

It will keep in the fridge for about a week- enjoy!

oh......and here's a picture of Ed refuelling en route!
