Klunker and Early Classics 1985 ride ?

Throwing this idea out to the masses and those who may be interested. Not looking to start a debate over date cut-offs. My gut feel is parts and geometry started to change markedly after ~ 1985, with some exceptions of course. There are others who are expert on this earlier era, not me.

Im thinking of harking back to the good Klunker VIBES of the early days like in these videos. Hippy wigs, lumberjack shirts and jeans...dunno. Wild camping will prolly get us arrested or shot so thats out. Happy to rock up at a cafe somewhere, High Beech Epping Forest ? Any suggestions of easy terrain trails, areas, dates, not thinking much more than 7-10 easy miles total, lots of pics, what are you thinking ?

I'm up for something...have 2 which would qualify.

Are you thinking UK classic style, or US?
Perhaps link up with the Wendover ride in early December? Certainly one of the earliest established regular rides of the UK scene.

All the best,

Sounds lovely but a long way from me.

Happy to go with the flow. US West Coast style is the dream but not really practical in the UK....or maybe it is ;) Need some possible suggestions of venues that can recreate that ‘vibe’. Essex is probably spiritually the closest....dunno.

Dont mind piggy backing another event. Im thinking easy pace though. Its more about looking the part and the ambience than a hard sweaty ride. Might also appeal to those of us not in the.....ahem....best of shape atm

Re:

^^ Prolly a bit early  I’m still hunting a few bits for my build. A ride up the river/around it and finish in Cambridge city would be good. Some nice places to eat/chill/take pics beside the river and its cycling friendly.

I was thinking of them organising something later on, rather than adding to the ride on the 30th.

Anyone here know routes around Cambridge?
http://cammtb.co.uk/ might be able to help with routes.
Or the council: https://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/resid ... -and-maps/

I'm only up the road in Huntingdon, but have never really ridden around the city...usually go west from here.

All the best,

Re:

Looks like a slow burner  Lets hope this flys one day

PS i like the look of the Saffron Walden Cambs route but there may be more scenic ones.

Scenic wins everytime...
