Slight departure with this post. GT produced their first tandem in 1991. They offered two models, the Quatrfoil LE which was made in the USA with a fillet brazed frame with a full XT spec and the Quatrefoil which was imported and had a Tange MTB DB TIG frame with a DX/XT component mix. Both these tandems utilized the 700D wheel with Araya-RM17 rims. Giving the rider three tire choices. I picked up my first Quatrefoil about four years ago and have done centuries on it with a 100 lbs in slicks and I've done 30 mile trail rides on it. It sees the most use in the fall when Wisconsin's many hardwood forests are ablaze in color. I'm considering converting the first one to drop bars since it's a size bigger and keeping this one for trails. GT had a Quatrefoil DX and a plain Quatrefoil in their line in 1992 and then in 93 they switched to 26" wheels and offered an LE and a base model. GT's product development team did spend some time on tandems. I think we've all seen the monster LTS tandem that was a prototype...it's changed hands a couple times over the past four years on eBay. When I worked for a GT distributor during one trip to Huntington Beach I had the chance to see a full aluminum tandem and even briefly rode a full Ti tandem that was hiding out in the product development department.

The top of the line 91 Quatrefoil LE was not only fillet brazed but was offered in four Dupont Imron colors. The Quatrefoil was offered in Daktari White, the ever popular Midnight Aurora and Deep Purple. If you've never ridden a tandem they can be fun and the speed two can get going on the flats and decents is just amazing.
