Now SOLD thanks

OK I don’t really want to sell this, but I simply dare not ride it, other than up and down our village street these days, frightened it gets damaged or Nicked.
I picked this up from France from the Time national supplier (Cata bikes) as an ex Italian National team Frame more than a decade ago and yes it was ridden by the cricket (PB) in the Giro di Lombardy the Giro and several other classics, which he dominated bitd. He moved onto the lighter VXRs in 2004/5 so this was around 2001-2002.
It sat on the bike room wall for a few years, until I could afford the exotic kit to do it justice, I paid £2000 for the frame) Time will make you one to order still) for about 4000 Euros.
This was the first frame with an integrated tapered head tube and they are hand built still in France, no other bike rides as well over rough roads, but still laterally very stiff, It’s a Time XXS size-which is a 49 but it’s not that small, with a good reach, I’m five foot six and with the 80mm stem it’s a good stretch, seat posts have to be cut to length as the tapered death tube only allow 100 of insertion!
It cost me around 5k off memory to complete and weighs as is At 6.65kg,
Full Super Record 2016 group Shamal wheels run tubeless. Spesh Aero Fly bar, AX lightness brakes and skewers Edco 11-29 cassette, Extralite stem and of course Time Titanium pedals-no expense was spared.
Looking for £2200 minimum collected OR would swap for a small sized Look 795
It’s a lot of mooler, but a bargain for the frame alone with it’s history.
You simply will not buy a better riding bike.

Re: Time VXR a piece of pure history

It would of been ridden 2003-2004 time. Bettini cycled for Mapei in 2001/2002. And his sponsored bike was Colnago. That bike would of been used 2003/2004. Doesn’t make any difference mind, fantastic bike, fantastic rider. And if anything, mr Bettini had more success in 2003/04! The Olympic road race being one of them
Good luck with sale.

Re: VXR

Thanks I thought it was that season, I remember seeing the Gold version he had for the Olympic road race. First time I rode this, I couldn’t believe how fluid it was and how it handles on sketchy tarmac, Boonen also ride one in the classics too, with great success-the tubes have all different profiles and flutes vacuum formed into them.

Re: Time VXR a piece of pure history

Too small for me, more Boonen’s size! Otherwise would of been very tempted. Beautiful bike

Re:

It’s surprisingly long for an xxs, in modern sizing, it’s more of a medium. I have a TCR in small and that is smaller than this.

Re: VXR

Should have said, if anyone is interested, I would part out the frame Groupset and wheels? Pm me if anyone is. Thanks

Re: Time VXR a piece of pure history

Certificate of Authenticity would be good confirming it was ridden by PB to give it genuine providence :)

Re:

Sadly that never happens, distributors get tasked with moving team bikes on ana certificate is difficult to authenticate either way. The asking price does not reflect the frames history whatsoever though. These frames are £3000 plus and the other kit would be Over £2500 so either way it’s a bargain for the quality of frame and components.
Thanks

Re: Time VXR a piece of pure history

Slightly off-topic, but what is that chain?! Looks incredible!

Re: I run them on all my bikes

It’s a KMC DLC they are coated with coloured industrial diamond for wear resistance and increased efficiency. They save a lot of weight- I have a fluorescent lime green and black one on my Giant TCR pro to match the frame colour highlights and my better half has a turquoise and black one on her Trek Emonda to match the custom paint that Trek put on it for her, Trek made the frame to measure and the Paint was $2500 extra as her name is incorporated into the paint job.
