COLNAGO MASTER 1990s. EX TEAM BIKE. MINT! - SOLD

FlyingW

Retro Newbie

Selling my superb Colnago Master ex spare team bike (note number plate boss under the top tube). Size 54cm. Early to mid 1990s. Built with the famous Columbus Gilco fluted steel tubing, and with chromed stays and straight blade Power Fork. The frame is in excellent condition; I can detect only one very minor blemish. All chrome is in excellent condition with no pitting.

Wheels are Peter Matthews hand built Pianni rims onto blue anodised Hope titanium hubs with flat blade spokes. The tyres are Vittoria Paves and are unridden.

Groupset is full Dura Ace 9 speed. The rear cassette is Ultegra to achieve a 'non-pro' climbing gear! But I still have the original Dura Ace 11-23T cassette and this comes with the sale.
Seatpost: Campagnolo titanium
Saddle: Selle Italia
Stem: Cinelli Grammo titanium
Bar: ITM
Pedals: Look.

Price £2200 ono

This is an amazing example of these much sought after machines. A worthy addition to any collection, exhibition or shop wall!
Note: I can ship globally but all costs and risks are on the part of the buyer. I take no responsibility once the item has left the UK.

Lovely Master
Just wondering what team this would be from as its a pretty 'standard' for want of a better word, décor finish.
I had a black/purple décor finished Olympic Master and they ride really lovely.
Yours is a bit big for me, but great condition.
Best of luck with the sale.

I too was wondering what team would use mismatched bars and stem, along with PM wheels.
Still a fantastic bike though, and too small for me

Re:

I wouldn't judge this not to be a team bike, as stem, bars, etc were often to riders spec', not always standard across a team. Viz a viz Lizzie Armitstead rides Zipp wheels not team issue Spesh Rovals. Very common practice in the Pro Peloton. Riders will often select different chain ring makes, bars, pedals even tyres.
Stunning bike and a good investment at the asking price. Sadly I would need a 48 or 50cm at a stretch.

Re: COLNAGO MASTER 1990s. EX TEAM BIKE. MINT!

I'm the same as you mate, 48 -50cm. My Master was a 50 and fit fine.
Whereas measured for my Merckx and it is a 48cm with a 53 top tube.
I'm not in any way questioning its provenance, just simply curious as to it being which team bike, as its a standard paint job. Lots of teams, semi pro etc use off the peg frames and paint jobs, that's why I am asking.

Just a point of interest, note that just because it has a Number Plate Boss, Dose Not make it a Team Bike.

Hi Stringfellow :)
I agree wholeheartedly that the boss does not make it a team bike. Seems to be a pretty common misconception these days, hence why I asked as was curious to know what team, or what made it a team bike.

Re:

If I remove the 'team' epithet will that make it buyable and not just discussable?! I'm more than happy to do so.
