Time strolls on and it’s as well to be thinking about West Midlands rides in 2012 now. I understand that the National Ride Calendar will be out soon but fixed dates that we know are:

Sunday 15th April 2012 - The Hell of North Cotswolds (AKA HONC)
22nd, 23rd, 24th June 2012 - Mountain Mayhem

To give some sort of structure to the Regional Rides though, how about we aim to put something on first weekend of each month (this may be half a dozen of us or just someone who says “I’m off for a ride in my local woods this Saturday if anyone fancies joining me”)? This of course doesn’t mean that we can’t get together at other times, far from it, but hopefully gives us at least one a month. So, potential dates are:

10 a.m. 22nd January 2012 - FoD http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=181401

4th February 2012 - Haugh Woods http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=183804

8th December 2012 - Ed's Christmas ride

Fancy putting something on? Post up on this thread and we’ll update the above as we go.

And what about venues? I’d have thought that the following have to be worth a go:
- FoD (of course – we may want to put on something and invite a little more widely?)
- Elan Valley
- Black Mountains
- Gap ride
- Cotswolds
- Long Mynd
- Malvern Hills
- Haugh Woods
etc.

Crucially, NONE of this post is set in stone (well, HONC and MM are), just thoughts/suggestions to start things off and any ideas that you’ve got are more than welcome. And please, don’t be put off by thoughts of ‘organising a ride’ – it really is just a small group of people going for a morning or day out together.

I will host a Cotswold ride Ed

Not fussed on date may or June quite takes me fancy but maybe to close to the HONC in may? Or March for a HONC warm up? Or June ...Nice boot camp get together before Mayhem? tell you what ..Surprise me and put it on the calender

August is the weekend before the wedding!!

Any more offers to host a ride - so far I've gone with Haugh Woods for the lot ;)

Seriously, if you fancy showing us around your local trails then please post up (and don't be shy about suggesting an alternative date to the above - they are far from set in stone and as long as there's no clash with the National Rides ....).

2012 - older, thinner, faster (or at least one of the three).

-The November date will be Annual FOD firework bonanza meet
-May date I will take as Cotswold ride
-June I would suggest as Forest of Dean pre-Mayhem gathering (Eds final team talk shakedown workout)

We have the Road ride in July, Could we have that as our date and try and get our regular mtb riders out on the road for the day? Cheap to hire as I did and be a great introduction.

I cant wait to get going loads to look forward too

Excellent stuff, I've edited the first post.

Ed (orange71) is also talking about arranging and leading on a joint East/South and West Midlands ride on the Long Mynd which would be great. More details to follow.
