Wanted: cheap beater in Manchester

Looking for a medium sized road bike in/near Manchester, cheap as possible as it's for my unemployed brother who's crashing on my couch at the moment!

Anyone got anything suitable?
 
Not clear what you are looking for exactly, but I have a coupe of rideable projects or one which is modern that might be of interest. Altrincham if you wish to visit
