I will consider it thanks, Mike - it's for a friend of mine who is coming to
Alpe dHuez with us next month - his stem is slipping and doesn't think that it can be saved. I emailed him my recommendations for shimming
the 1R stem that I posted recently in the General Chat column here.

Is the stem slipping at the quill end or the bars?

If its the bars, take the bars out, undo the stem bolt all the way out and catch the wedge. Clean the teeth of the wedge itself and it should grip the bars again properly.

I did this myself just this morning!

Yup, I advised him of that routine along with using a strip of Coke can folded several times to act as a shim.

It's a right pain, isn't it?! :x

Done that, too! Love those stems though! Pity I sold mine :facepalm:
