Retro Newbie
Been sprayed Black (Badly)
Top tube cable routing for the rear brake, front mech and rear derailleur i.e. cable eyelits on the Top of the Top tube rare ? or just dated ??

Next to the bottom bracket -Rear chainstay connection to seat tube is different / unique -see first picture - hollow "pizza slice" shape ?? so not a "cheap" generic alloy frame ?

SDG I beam 2014 SADDLE and SEAT POST
Hope Seat clamp

Frame Numbers:
WTU 2223716 F
413017586

I paid £200 for this as so light and fast

Rocky Mountain, Marin, Santa Cruz, Specialized, Trek ??

they are not particularly helpful pictures. How about a picture of whole frame from the side, the rear dropouts etc. It's not particularly rare to route cables along the top tube. The rest of the spec is meaningless as components could have been changed 1/2 dozen times. As wheels are expensive what does it say on the hubs?
How do you know it's 1998?

Appears to have mounts for an anti-chainsuck device...

Could be irrelevant, but there's a logo on the bars - could possibly be Kona, but can't tell from that angle - might be a clue...

The Deore XT components date to 1990s - so unlikely to change to older parts ? - I'm guessing 1998 but could be older
Tyres are Marin Kevlar Rockstar Lite 2.1 again 1990s
Not sure if it's a Kona - the only odd part of the frame is pictured - Rear chainstay connection to seat tube - the only giveaway :)
ACSD (Anti Chain Suck Device) unsure but it's on both rear chainstay tubes - why a hollow "pizza slice" shape ??

No way a Kona - they never used rear chainstay/BB areas like that, nor cable stops like them. Konas also have the seat tube clamp slot on the front edge.
