2001 Rock Shox SID steerer replacement ?

Clappy

Hi Guys,

I've just picked up a 2001 Rock Shox SID (Dual air) fork for my impending 1999 (Reynolds 853) Kona Explosif build....but the steerer might be a bit on the small side (its 180mm....and depending on the Headset I use, I have a Hope and a CK, i fear may be a bit too short. I havent decided on X-lite or Hope stem yet !)...

Is it possible to replace the steerer ? and if so, can anyone recommend someone to do it ?

Cheers

Jon

Re:

It can be done, but you need someone with access to a hydraulic press. You can but steerer extenders, some are essentially a quill stem without the stem, others are an ahead stem, without the stem.

If it were me I'd sell the forks and get a set with a steerer long enough, rather than 'bodge', but others will I'm sure be along to say the alternatives work fine.
