Dumb v-brake question

OK so I feel the imminent need to buy some new v brakes, question; front/rear whats the difference. I've only ever bought them as a pair (last time was 199:cool:. Figured that the front/rear might mean the noodle comes in n the other direction or something but mine are the same anyway...
So what's the difference?or does it even matter?

Avid 7's (speed dial/single digit)

Its just the noodles. They change the angle that the cables come into the brake. There really isnt any advantage in front and rear specific and I dont think any ever existed.

Cytech in the UK requires specific types to be used f&r but there are no rules, just fit what gives the least resistance.

As for the brakes themselves, theres really no difference at all once on the bike. Levers may flex a bit depending on brand but most of the time, clean cables and good pads are all thats required.

ah of course, now I remember! Thenoodle shape, cheers for that. Of course going and looking at my xinag I have got them completely backwards haha.

Yeah I originally had the red DX brakes with some tektro levers, then swapped to the DX levers that ere flexy as, then got some XT levers and brakes, much better. Had soem avid 5's on my old specialised that were really good, figure all that I listed wold be usable...

Just want to build up another bike and transfer brakes across

Yes, just the noodles. Depending on which way around you have your brakes.
Being a left/front bloke, I use 90 degree ones both ends.

The tighter angled noodle would be for right/front riders , along with frames with brake cable running on the right hand side of the top tube

If you'd like a recommendation, the Avid single digit brakes and single digit levers are pretty good, but if budget allows, try to get hold of the parallel action Shimano xt or xtr v brakes. They were my first choice for a non-disc compatible frame, but in the end I picked up a magura hydraulic rim brake set which are awesome too.
At the other end of the price spectrum, halfords often have the Clarks v-brakes on sale for just a couple of quid. They're solid brake arms, nothing wrong with them.

All my more modern bikes use Avids. Hate the parallelogram Shimano ones. Look pants when set up. M600s look better than those too. Simple design, that works well and looks good
