A good friend would like to buy his adult daughter a classic-looking Dutch bike with basket. Does anyone know of a good one that can be sourced in the UK? It doesn't need to have the big-name branding... Gears and basket essential, budget £200 - £300. Any advice would be gratefully received. Many thanks

As is often the case £2-300 will not buy a good one new sadly. So if the budget is immovable then you are looking at second hand in the usual places or something of a lower standard.

If the budget is negotiable then you might want to look at something like the Workcycles Omafiets. http://www.workcycles.com/home-products ... ranny-bike

The Workcycles site has a list of dealers with a handful in the UK.
Gazelle is a classic make and there are a couple of places in the UK you can get them. Below is one.

If you can persuade your friend to up the budget and support home manufacturing then the Paper Bicycle is well worth a look. Very stylish as well as practical.

Of no use to you whatsoever, I bought this at the local tip for a tenner and serviced it for another £28.

It would have been around £450 or so new

Might have overdone it on the new box (previous one inside for scale) as the front end gets a bit marginal if she packs it badly, but the other half's little shopping truck. And it's a Kona. Was about £100 round the corner, off gumtree, basically brand new.

And in previous mode, with ride em cowboy? boots.

I just got my wife a Pendleton Somersby in burgundy from ahem Halfords
To be fair for £250 it seems ok
And there is/was a 20% off offer on the other day too

Thank you for your advice everyone. I will pass on some links to my friend. Very grateful that people have taken the time to reply, ta :)
