Hi all,

Has anyone any first hand experience of Modern Steel bikes such as the genesis range, I want to buy a bike on the Cyclescheme but would rather spend a little more and get one that's hopefully going to last.

Weight not a major issue but needs to be pretty light, modern gears etc. and no carbon. Budget £900 or so.

Re:

Need to be a bit more specific about what you're after , had an Altitude 853 frame and it was great but my Soul takes longer forks and is better , does everything I want from local loops, days on the moors to descending Snowdon , 26 btw

Re:

Looking for a Roadbike that can do the odd Sportive type ride but mainly something comfortable to munch the miles away/day touring.

Something that's going to last.

Re:

I've got a Genesis Equilibrium which I've had for a couple of years. Very comfy and versatile as it'll take full guards. Mine is a Reynolds 725 version but the newer ones seem to come with a different tubeset so can't offer any info on them but the geometry should be similar. Compared to the Scandium Ribble it replaced it's head and shoulders above in terms of comfort which I think is more important on a road bike. Worth a look i'd say.

Re:

The new Equilibriums are still Reynolds 725. There is a cheaper model that isn't made from 725, it's made from Genesis' own seamless 4130 chromo tubeset. Genesis used to use Reynolds 520 in the cheapest model but it's basically the same also being a seamless 4130 chromo tubset built by third parties under licence from Reynolds. For the record 725 is heat treated seamless 4130 chromo and is built by Reynolds.

My Bobbin is a bit of a laugh. Absolutely no Shimano was harmed in the making of it and it has at least 2 tubes of cro-mo, the rest being recycled Raleigh Activator materials.

It was £350 from a Wiggle sale last year - I loves it!
