Can anyone give me some tips regarding removing a seized BB?
I've just blogged a 99 CAAD3 Cannondale XC frame which is so far unidentifiable but without removing the stuck BB it's useless to me.
Any tips?

I have managed to get the non drive side cup off but the drive side teeth are all goosed!

can only suggest using a dremel cutting disc to carefully cut it out, hopefully without damaging the frame.... or welding a bolt to the BB so that it can be undone and the injection of heat 'cracks' the seal in the thread.

If you are lucky you might be able to bolt on the extractor tool with an M8 bolt into the BB spindle and some big washers. It might have enough purchase not to slip.

Leave the frame drive side down for a week and liberally dose with plus-gas into the BB shell to soak the threads and make things a little easier.

Then with your best spanner and an extension tube, try to undo the BB. Probably the last owner forgot it was a left hand thread...

I had the same issue with my fsr. I poured cola into the bb and left it overnight, a big set of stilsons on the prutoding lip was enough to free it off. You have to be really careful you don't slip and chip the paint though.

Not too fussed about the paint as the frame will be getting an overhaul anyhow. Seen a set of Headshok forks on eBay I want to get (appears to be a nightmare to get hold of them!) so I'm gonna give it a go one night this week. Cheers for the tips guys!

I know this is going to sound like I have gone completely mad but often it is better trying to tighten the BB first so that the seal breaks then loosen it

Oh if it is an aluminium frame you can remove the steel bb using chemicak....i forget the one and it wukk taje a while but diabke

Last resort : get a long steel tube and take that to a welder together with the frame. Once he has welded the tube onto the BB itself, you'll have plenty of leverage and grip to get it loose.

take it to a garage that fit wheel bearings using a press

as you have removed one cup the bb can be pressed out the side where the cup is removed once its removed there is no tension on the remaining cup its usally easy to undo

How is it going?

Still not sorted?

Work upside down to significantly increase leverage and use 12/14 inch stilsons. Remember that stilsons will tighten from one side only. Apply side pressure to stop slipping ( use a pal ) or a G Clamp to lock in place. Slowly apply downwards pressure, the jaws will tighten in ratio with the pressure applied.

This has never failed me yet.
Best of luck
