I'd be worried that it was going to "swing" backwards under heavy braking or if you hit a pothole.What actually stops it doing that anyway - just the damper rod?

It is counter intuative, the design suggests it pivots upward but it looks as if it would swing backward upon hitting anything in its path and under braking. Which way does the fork move under braking ?
