Hey there!
So got this Trek bike for free from a friend because there is 2 cracks in the chainstays (is it called that?), and i was wondering if it is possible to weld or i should just take of the usable parts and throw away the frame ?

There seems to be stressmarks here and there aswell.

 that looks like the frame has filled up with water and then frozen......afraid that frame is wall art...i.e. dead!
i believe you have ice in sweden!

I guess you could drill either end of the cracks and then weld a collar around the damaged area which might do the job, although I wouldn't like to say how strong it would be.

looking at the paint flakes it's distorted the tube in areas other than where it burst. Tim's right, weigh it in for scrap.

Nooooooooo don't bin it! You've got a fabulous Trek rear wheel truing jig right there; just cut out the rear stays and around the BB shell. Hell it should even work for those funky new 29er wheels too. Will keep the green party more than happy too ;)
