Rebuilding '98 Z4's

Howdy,

I've striped and rebuilt a pair of 98 Z4's. They went back together as planned and I topped the 7.5wt fluid up to 4cm from the top of the stanchions, however there is no resistance in them at all.

Suggestions on a postcard as to what I've done wrong? Can't imagine the springs are so ineffective that they don't rebound?
Can stiffer springs still be purchased?

Cheers,
JT

Check the place where you rebuilt them, if the springs are on the side thats probably it

Not sure other than that, its hard to say without more detailed info. Harder springs are out there, but getting progressively harder to come by.

Hmmmm. Did you cycle the rebound cartridges when you were filling them up? This helps to ensure that there is enough oil in them.

Sounds daft, but are there any leaks anywhere?

Failing that, I'd try again and see if that works.

Sounds like way too much oil, I usually push stanchions all way down then fill oil. 40-50mm below the bottom of the top cap threads. Then cycle the stanchion through the travel and that would allow oil to circulate and they should be good.
