have been busy working away and since my rx7 is on course to be finished soon, so thought i would spend a little on the old girl and summer is on its way so. sorted out some forks, tyres and couple of other little things. its a 1998 specialised fsr

but looking at upgrading a few things in the coming weeks, mainly different rear shock (something with lock out)

how much would i notice the difference in fitting new transmission (cassette, rear mech and front mech, front gearing) and whats the huge difference in xt, xtr?? currently have 9speed.

also looking at getting a bigger camel bac, what size do you guys use (currently got 2l, and always run out)

cheers for the advice

The XTR stuff will be lighter, supposedly better shifting although I'm not sure how many people can actually tell and will relieve you of more money. If you want brand new, both have moved to 10 speed only. The new Shimano stuff is getting great reviews and appears to have won some people back from Sram although some people do find the new XTR shifter's action too light.

With regards to the hydration pack, I use an Evo C 16c which will take up to a 3l bladder although I'm using a 2l one t the mo which I may change for a bigger one when it gets a bit warmer.
