I come off my bike today  and once i got going i was changing back up through the gears and found the leaver wasnt returning to normal position i had to keep pushing it back, Is there a spring that might of come off inside ?
My bike is a 2007 Kona Cinder cone with Deore Lx i think shifters.

Easiest way to tell is take it to bits and have a look but sounds like you have broken it. If you don't do it will remain as is so nothing ventured nothing gained.

Check the shift levers aren't fouling the shifter body. I've bent these before and one was dragging against the other.
