I've read that cane creek s3 bearings are perfect replacements for hope headset ones...

Anyone care to confirm/deny this 100% for me? Or even a consensus of opinions?

Would be interested to know also. I guess it just depends on the angle of contact. Id expect many to fit if correct angle.

Reading between the lines... Yes.

All of a sudden the hope headset cups on CRC website for £11 seem like a bit of a bargain

Sure but then you will need the lower race, upper race and cap so then you may aswell just get a decent second hand one. They can go cheap, cheapest new style hope one i had was £20! It was in great condition.

Crown race £3.99 top cap £3.99 upper race £11.99
Cups £23.98 bearings £12

Less than £55 for a hope headset, brand new.

Almost a bargain then...
