How big is your piston?

Ooo-eer. Kevhl and I have been having fun trying to match up duff Fox bits to make complete forks. Different forks have different stanchion thicknesses which affect the internal diameter and hence air piston size. I have a Float 2008 100mm air piston measuring 27.37mm in diameter which is too small for my 2002 Floats. Has anybody else got Fox forks in parts and could measure the piston size, please? Anyone willing to sell their dead forks?

Been out in the shed having a proper look at what I've got, also pulled apart my 2008 Floats as well...

The earlier (2008s are included) air piston is slightly smaller in diameter than the later ones, my verniers are out of battery however there looks to be less than a 0.5 difference between the two.

The other difference that I've read about but until now didn't realise how subtle is actually is, is the top cap threads...
...now the earlier top caps will screw into the later stanchions and feel like they fit, however the later top caps won't screw into the earlier stanchions. The thread pitch is the same but the overall diameter is subtley different to prevent them being compatible.

OK, thanks for your post. I took my air assembly out (pictured below) and removed the u-cup seal Part number: 036-01-018 looking this up on the Fox website:

http://service.foxracingshox.com/consum ... tslist.htm my Floats (dated stamped 06 / 2002 so probably a 2003 model) should have a 036-01-010 u-cup seal:

Which has an ID of 22.91 - 0.5mm larger just as you said! The seal ODs are listed, my current 036-01-018 has an OD of 27.81mm whereas the 036-01-010 I need has an OD of 28.27mm.

I tried the '08 float top-cap assembly in the 2002-3 stanchions and they were a little free on the threads but bedded down well against the o-ring.
