Guys i was wondering if any of you guys could recommend a company to service my 1998 Marin Team Downhills manitou X-Vert forks ?
They are the top spec magnesium ones from back in the day, they seem to be working fine but the right hand side preload adjuster is a bit stiff to turn so i wouldn't mind getting a service done on them, any idea where the best place would be and how much this should cost lads ?
Prefer close to midlands area .
Thanks Garry

Give Hotlines a call. They are the importer so should be able to do it.

They're not the original importer though, they took over from so done else so you may struggle to get spares for older forks. There is definitely a bit of a black hole in spares for Manitous because of this.

You may also find that some companies are unwilling to service them due to the lack of spares.

Do you know which damping system they run? If its TPC, then TFT may be a good bet because they used to do some good stuff to TPC forks like some of the Shermans.

Yeah there the ones you have in 1999 they went to a 7in version which has longer dropouts to compensate.

If its just the preload adjuster take it off yourself and if its not freely moving when its off the bike you'll know its just that part, prob just need a bit of a service yourself will be simple or should, I have the ones pictures but never had an issue. You'd be silly to send something like that to service just for something you could do yourself and save a heap of money but if you did want to give them the once over send them to TF Tuning but old parts are prob long gone by now I needed new springs for my boxxers and they didnt have anything they said try on this forum and still no luck DOH!

Any ideas how you take the pre load adjuster apart /or off ?

Just undo that top bolt on the yoke and then undo it by hand no tools needed to get that bit screwed off im pretty sure as you can see its like that on the edge so you can get a good hand grip.

Then see if its ok off the bike if its not youll know its that if it is that it could be something inside which is not great with an old fork like that as parts will be as rare as rocking horse shit
