I have bought and sold many things on this forum and others mostly without issue although recently I have had to pursue a couple of sellers who were dishonest in their descriptions of goods or because the goods didn't materialise. You can see my feedback thread on RB, I'm 100% an honest seller. On ebay my fb score is 524 and 100% positive. I value my good reputation.
I find myself now being pursued by a buyer that is claiming all sorts of problems with some wheels he bought from me over on PB.
The wheels and tyres are tubeless and exactly as I advertised them. I had to deflate the tyres to get the wheels and tyres into the wheel boxes I posted them in.
Posted on Thursday the buyer got them today and has sent me a list of complaints about them, this is his message to me
'Small problem. The wheels leek white fluid and wont pump up and the wheels are buckled. I would like my money back. Sorry for the inconvenience I just cant use broken wheels.'
So I replied 'You have good wheels mate. You need to inflate them with a compressor to get the tyres seated. Its a common thing on tubeless setups. The white fluid is the sealant. It will leak out as the tyres are deflated for the purpose of transporting them to you.'
Next reply from the buyer adds to the list of so called problems with the wheels 'they grind and that isnt supposed to happen' followed by 'They look buckled as hell and sounds awful'.

Now there was nothing wrong with the wheels when I boxed and posted them and I think the guys trying it on. I dont want to lose my good rep on any buy/sell forums and certainly dont want my Paypal account suspended or anything.
So what can I do to protect myself and my reputation. Because I know the wheels were sound when they left me I feel no inclination to refund him as I think hes simply changed his mind.

Thanks Nathan

Were they signed for by the buyer as undamaged? If so he shouldn't have any comeback if you can prove they were in the stated condition you sold them as. Having been in a similar position in the past I really feel for you mate, there are too many idiots out there expecting practically NOS items for peanuts and will kick up sh*t for no good reason. Hope this is promptly sorted out to your satisfaction.

If you value your rep then let him return them. He pays return postage. You refund him purchase price less what it cost you to post them. You don't lose any money, just a bit of inconvenience.

If the wheels are good then you can sell them to someone else who will hopefully not change their mind.

Did you post them with insurance to cover any damage in transit? Get him to return them to you before a refund is given. If there is damage claim through the post office.

Ask for a photo of the damage?

signing for does not mean they are good - how many times do we receive stuff and sign without opening the box - at best we can look at the box for damage but if the stuff was bad wehn psoted, then what?

I am not saying the OP sent bad stuff just that we don't chekc contents when signing.

Simple solution - buyer sends item back and once received, gets a refund.

But surely as the buyer states the wheels are damaged and yet they have been signed for OK why should the OP take back something which he is not responsible for and would have extreme difficulty in claiming for off of the postage company? I agree with the OP, it stinks of the buyer pulling a fast one, the seller could quite easily have damaged the wheels deliberately.

Unfortunately the buyer did not pay for recorded delivery, they went RMSP. He was only willing to pay for cheaper postage.
After further pm's with the buyer I know hes trying it on for definite. His latter responses contradict his earlier ones and after fronting him he's gone quiet. I might have heard the last of this chancer but just in case I have already contacted the admin on PB.

Unfortunately there are some real idiots out there. To save a lot of hassle you might be better off offering him a refund, but only after the wheels have been returned using a trackable service.
This is a standard paypal guideline. You may find the cost (about a tenner) deters him.
I can't really see the problem; you send someone something, they don't want it for whatever reason, they return it. You haven't really lost much except postage, so it's no biggy, unless their attitude sucks...

Yep this. Though it is pinkbike which with such a big site gets all sorts on there.

.

If it had been an ebay transaction i think you would have been required to make a refund, as its very difficult to prove if the buyer is telling the truth or not :?
