Powder coating a frame

Hi Folks,
So I have just bought a Orange MsIsle frame off Ebay. If all goes well i will collect it tomorrow. Now before i make any further steps in building the bike up i would like to get the frame refurbished. This is obviously going to involve blasting and powder coating. Could someone recommend a decent place to get this done, between Bristol and Birmingham? I don't necessarily want the cheapest job, but a good compromise between quality and price.

I would appreciate your thoughts, i will set up a blog under readers bikes to show stage by stage the build if anyone is interested.
 
Cheers mate, Ledbury is not that far away from me. I had been in contact with Armourtek but the cost of shipping the bike there and back was as much as the powder coating!! I would also much rather support someone localish as well.

Anyway i have emailed Cleftbridge and await their response. looking forward to collecting the frame now.

What are peoples thoughts on colours? I am thinking about getting the frame done in orange (orange bikes should be orange in my opinion, like Ferrari's in Red) but the more i think about it the more i think White would suit the frame better??
 
Thanks Retrocomeback. i found 3d Finishers on that list based in Coventry. They e-mailed straight back and smashed the nearest quote i have had locally to me. So i think i am going to drop the frame down to them this next week. Now the next question is, i have seen on another MsIsle thread here that another poster reoved the v-brake bosses. Do i bother to do this? or just leave them. They are bloody ugly things if you are using Discs!

i would remove the v-brake bosses :D
Also i would avoid sand blasting especially on an orange frame.
I have saw frames with holes in them because of sand blasting.
Try media balsting like glass bead or peanut shells
 
Cheers Mate, i had thought the same thing and will be asking if they can ball blast it instead of sand. But i will definately let the shop know that they need to be careful.
 
Orange will re-paint it themselves for you and offer a delivery service. Not the cheapest but you'll get new decals etc from 'em and they should know what they're doing. From their website.



"Can I get my Orange mountain bike re-sprayed?XYes, we offer a full re-spray service on all Orange mountain bikes. You can either contact us directly or make arrangements through your dealer.

Before sending your frame for re-spray, remove all over-lacquer decals. This minimises the time we have to spend preparing each frame and maximises efficiency. Package carefully and send to the factory (see contact page). Include a clear covering letter with all necessary contact information.

On receipt of your frame, we will strip the existing paint and prepare it for powder-coating. It will then be painted in the earliest allocated window for that particular colour, with standard colours painted more frequently. Fresh out of the oven we'll face and ream any excess paint, reassemble with new bearings, apply new decals and fit a metal headbadge. This is a fairly labour intensive programme, but when it's finished, it'll come back looking like brand new.

Expect a wait of two to three weeks depending on colour choice and schedule.

Hardtails (including decals and return postage in mainland UK) – £150
Full suspension (including pivot kit, decals and return postage in mainland UK) – £200

To be fair £150 for a hard tail is bloody good if you think about it. The decals are £20 & a courier would be about £15. So £115 for a fresh paint job from orange ain't bad, I'll be sending my MsIsle to them after the new year.
 
Even better value if you go for a neon colour because they're always more expensive at ever powder coater I've been to.
