All,
is it possible to pop some old marin rockstar forks
(threaded) into a later marin frame? the headset that
was on the frame seems shot anyhow probably made up of
other tat knocking around......
ultimately i would like to use the fork on a-headset system, is
this possible?
any help would be ace as the bride is starting to growl at me....

thanks!

If your steerer is long enough there is no reason why not. However it is a bad idea to clamp onto the threaded part. So, if you have a set of forks with a hugely long steerer and can lop off the entire threaded bit then it will be fine.

In practice the fork is not long enough and it is easier to stick with a threaded headset and then use an ahead converter to attach your stem.

cheers hamster.
thought as much, but the bottom race onto the
fork seems loose? i dont know how critical this will be,
any ideas?

A few custom made plugs should be able to seal the internals completely. You can then do as you please. Afterwards, just remove the plugs and the internals haven't been affected.

ermm ... this must have ended up in the wrong thread somehow. One where there was a discussion about painting a fork.

I'm sorry.

If the bottom is loose, firstly try tightening up the headset. If that doesn't work without the steering going stiff, then you need to service the headset and replace the bearings.

At the very worst, you can replaced the entire bottom bearing assembly with one from an ahead-type headset.
