Does anyone know if you can use any 8spd shifter with an alfine set up? Just wondering how limited my options were? Ive just bought my first commuter bike with an alfine set up ( cannondale bad boy) and dont really know anything about them! Cheers :)

Hmmm im no expert on this but woul dhave to say no. Just serviced my dads bike and the alfine shifter is bulky. Its reverse shifting, i have thought about this and guess its in the shifter but cant figure it out?

Probably wrong though. Google may be your friend.

I wondered about the reverse shifting too, do you think a retro xt/dx thumbshifter work?

Id be interested to see you try if you have one around!

Oh and if you have the alfine cranks, the chairing is around £40, rose bikes have the whole chainset for £50.

No no and no.

Cable has to be very precise or gears will slip. Has to be correct shifter.

Oh? What ratio is it then? Makes sense what you say now though.
Not even friction shifter though?
