I posted this in the retro section too as i feel it has potential value to someone trying to make an old groupo work on a new project.

the mech in question is a sram x-9 bottom pull only - low clamp model. I have a goosed dual pull x-7 and by my reckoning, the cable clamp arm is pretty much the same from a mechanics point of view (with the exception of the cable guide for DP on the x-7 arm.

if i was to flick the circlips off the x9 and switch the x-7 arm onto it, will it work or am i on the verge of killing a perfectly good mech?
