Err you hit the axle with a hammer ....

will give you and idea of it's construction.

so do a search on "hope XC hub service" and you'll find loads of info.

Mallet not hammer! Or you may damaged teh axle as they are quite soft.

I'd definitely try and get some form of mallet and / or plastic drift to get the axle out. The ali axles are mega soft and will get mashed it you just belt 'em (I learnt the hard way the first time I tried to change the bearings).

Or put a small bolt with washer in the hole and smash that if you are having too much 'give' with softer tools.

Technically speaking, of course. Just doesn't sound as cool ;-)

Hold wheel in the middle by spokes
Wallop with a mallet on one end
the axle will push through,in turn pushing the other spacer out enough to get fingers under it.Failing that rest the hub over something with a hole in it big enough for the end cap to go through and use something[plastic or wood] to drift it out totally

Wasnt there a chap on here who said he had the actual proper tools to service all Hope hubs that he would lend out for the cost of the post to you plus a little 'security money'?

The hope service tools are pretty cheap. All they are are a support steel block with a nylon top and a hole drilled through
