A cautionary tale - Revelation RLT Ti

A tale of woe.

I bought some used Revs a year or so ago and have performed no maintenance on them in that time. Recently I have noticed that I was losing air out of the negative spring over the period of a week or so and the positive only needed 100Psi as opposed to the usual 120 I was running. I was waiting till I had some time to send them off to TFTuned to get the wipers, foams and what have you serviced.

Anyway I set off for work on it a couple of weeks ago and the left hand leg, air side, blew the wiper seal off. I bit the bullet and sent them to TFTuned expecting there to be some damage internally and I was right. The shaft was scored which was causing the leak in the Neg spring. Great, a hefty bill for the service and the new part but the forks feel like new again now.

What I should have done was given them the odd relube of the lowers which would have stopped the shaft damage. Rockshox recommend every 30 hours. I should also have resoaked the foams at the top of the legs with lube. Sadly I did neither...

Well thats not strictly you being lazy.
Mine did the same a couple weeks back. Mine were second hand and relatively freshly serviced i believe. Left seal popped up after i did about 80 road miles on them. Very fortunately they were just over a year old and the previous owner was the original owner. He was very very helpful (mad shout out to him), and he sent me the forms so i could return them to merlin and even sent them back to me at no charge.

The service sheet said the air cart was scratched and had damaged an o ring so got that replaced on warranty.

While searching worried like mad though, i did come across a fault from rock shox but my first port of call was them. Told them my serial and they said that batch wasnt affected.

So it could well have been manufaturer fault (im not sure if mine were or werent part of the dodgy batch, if you worked for RS would you tell the customer??).

I believe it to be a common problem. When I rang TFT they said that it could be the shaft being scored as soon as I described it. Got a great advice note back with the forks though detailing how to look after them and what have you.

Lucky for me I was going away for a fortnight so sent them in and got them done while I was away and they delivered them back the day I got home which was nice.

That is a good plan. No downtime.

Is the sheet you have of interest also or is it just whats linked above?

It was as above as in the link to the TFTuned lower leg advice, the advice to turn it upside down, advice to do a full service, ie foams and seal replacements every 200 hours.

Far from fit and forget sadly but Fox forks also need TLC and I like the way the Revs ride when serviced and in reality the lower leg lube won't take long after a couple of goes.

I thought that, couple goes and your away.

Looks like its just us though!

Oh my fork is 2010 rev race.

Needs care then. Doesn't look too hard, just need some gear to do it I suppose. Suspension oil is cheap enough and got a mallet and the other bits.
