Always been confused what this bit is for on the rh shifter just left of the clamp its like its the same size as a cable stop, any ideas?

No idea, but shifter look to old to have had anything to do with fork lock outs

Are yours 8 or 9 speed (mine are 8)? Could be why mine dont have them

They are for remote bar end shifter cables

ps; yes I'm pretty sure the extra blibber is for bar end remote shifters.
