They're like that on the higher end crowns I think. My '99 S-fly's have big holes in them to no detriment.
The Arch was also for the higher end forks when it came out as the lower end still used the bolt on BAM, and that gets less holey and machined as you go down the levels.

I have just weighted them. With the 195 steerer (I think it's steel...), star nut, relatively big amount of dry mud after morning ride and the bracket for Topeak Defender mudguard the scale showed 1900 grams. According to the conversion table it is 4.18 lb.
I'll contact Windwave later on.
